One of my favorite things to do on this end of the year with all these holidays, besides eating everything of course, is sending out handwritten cards and letters to people I visited or heard from.
There's something exciting about getting personal paper mail, which for me still hasn't faded with the digital age. It says something about the sender, and how they cherish the recipient. "I took the time to make something beautiful for you, and it's further personal with my own handwriting and sentiments."
Most of the time I still get a pretty Hallmark type card to begin with, since it often will embody my message and give me a starting point. Then, as many of my family members know, I go full tilt crazy with doodles, an addendum, or even a full story in blank spaces.
It's a lot of fun, and everyone seems to get a kick out of the silliness. With Pinterest looming over my lack of artistic abilities, I think I may try my hand at cards from scratch this year.
I've never been very original when it comes to art, but I think with the help of more creative minds, this year may yield some interesting pieces in peoples' mailboxes.
I'm going to start with this pin, and see where it takes me, letting the occasion and recipient inspire my cards. If I come up with anything particularly fabulous, I'll surely share it here!
