"After the last book, Torment, I was pretty excited to see more of Luce and Daniel's story and how her past lives played into their current love. Passion does not disappoint. The reader is taken through many of their different romances and you learn along with Luce how much they really do love each other.
It was a nice change of pace to have the chapters alternate between Luce and Daniel and get his perspective on different situations, considering we didn't know very much about him for the first two books. We finally get more of his personality and his feelings for Luce.
One of the things I was a bit disappointed about is that there wasn't much room for any of the supporting characters that I know many of us have come to love: Arianne, Shelby, Steven/Francesca, etc. However, considering that this is Luce's journey through her past lives, there isn't really much room for others beyond her and Daniel and some cameos from the others."In this book, we get to see some pretty well done time travel. I'm usually not a fan of going back in time, and I especially hate trying to keep track of time paradoxes.Lauren Kate handled the concepts well by introducing Bill, an almost adorable stone gargoyle in pocket-size, to keep Luce straight on the rules and limitations as she visits the horrors of her and Daniel's past love(s) together. The time periods are handled quite accurately, dating back almost to the origin of mankind. I especially enjoyed seeing Luce in one of her prior lives be a total bitch. It's realistic, to me, to see a character face their own flaws, and Kate authored that scene beautifully. We finally see some method to the madness, and why it is Luce is so crazy for Daniel, beyond his good looks. Unfortunately, the entire story ping-pongs between the two of them, leaving little room for development of the support characters - read Cam. That guy has Ian Somerhalder smolder going on, and I had NONE to enjoy! The progression of Luce's self-discovery comes to an apex when she realizes Bill, the brusque, helpful little pudgester, is actually the Devil in disguise, trying to get her to screw up history and ruin just everything!!WHATTA DICK.I'll leave you with that tantalizing tidbit, and hope you read this one, cause it was a nice journey almost worthy of standalone status. Almost.Check in next week for closure on this saga, in the underwhelming Rapture.
