I'm an independent American who don't need no government telling me what I can and cannot say!
With that in mind, I get really frustrated with people who hide behind freedom of speech as an excuse to have freedom from consequences. Sure, the government can't censor you, but that doesn't change the resulting reactions of fellow citizens. Are you being a douche-nozzle? You still deserve to be treated like one, although the government can't punish you for it.
Ignorance and ugly words aside, I think it's important to feel safe speaking your mind. I'm sure I say things on here that are disagreeable from time to time, and luckily haven't had much backlash for it. It's comforting to know I can say the things I do without risking my page being shut down.
