I
understand that with children, television is kind of necessary, but
like in the prior suggestions, take a look at your bills and what you're
really paying for, and consider how much you actually use those
features.
Do you have Netflix, go to Redbox, or buy DVDs regularly?
Do you really need those premium channels, or sports packages?
How much do you really use your DVR?
Is there a way to remove channels you don't really use - news packages, networks, cartoon packages?
A
lot of households have opted to switch to streaming services instead of
dish or cable, which might be a more viable option for your family.
They are definitely cheaper, but you obviously lose a lot of what cable coverage has to offer, especially if you follow particular shows and
just have to watch them weekly.
This
Fuckin' House has no TV service, as we just aren't big TV watchers to
begin with.
I usually wait for the season to end on my shows and get the DVD pack all at once for binge watching in my free-time, often reselling it afterward on ebay at a reduced price, or keeping the set if it was a particularly good show. Our biggest form of entertainment are movies, which we usually stream/download on the internet "as needed," which for us is still way, way cheaper than a monthly subscription to anything.

What
you decide for your family is going to be up to you, but at least take a
scrutinizing look at your plan and try to justify that cost to
yourself, and if it's worth it.
If it isn't, then slash as needed, if it
is, then move on!
