Today I am going to show you how I idiot-proofed the process of this...
To this...
I even had acrylic nails during this project, which remained untainted to the end!
The Shit List
- Drill
- Screw Driver
- Masking Tape
- Pen
- Optional - Level
To start, I of course removed all my other shit off the wall, and chose to center the clock because I like aesthetics and things like that.
Take said object to be mounted, and flip that bitch over. Check out the mounting brackets/holes, get familiar and say hello. You're then going to get a little more personal and cover your new friends with tape, stretching it parallel from one mount to the other in a pretty line.
Then, take your pen and humiliate said mounts by marking where they are beneath your tape. This can be an X or outline or whatever, but you need to know where your screw needs to go.
Remove the tape and apologize to the mounts, since they didn't deserve that abuse. Stick that tape on the wall where you want to mount your lucky decor.
I'm a perfectionist, so I checked the spacing and leveled the lines so everything would be straight and even and just lovely. Once you're sure where you want everything, which is easy to adjust because TAPE, it's time to drill through your holes and screw in the drywall mounts.
Don't be a dick. Always use a drywall mount for screws. You will thank me. Once your mounts are in, put the screws in, leaving about 1/4 inch sticking out.
Slide your beautiful shelf onto the screws, and make sure it sits tight to the wall. If you can wiggle it laterally, or it sags, just screw your screws in a few turns as an adjustment.
It's easy!!
What a genius idea, of the tape...just learned something knew.......now to re hang all the shit that looks like shit, thank you
ReplyDeleteYay, I helped!!
Deletevery good advice, takes alot of the head ache out. and you only need one person to do it.
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty much my goal now - doing DIY solo without scaring Husband with my rage, haha.
DeleteBrilliant! I'd seen this tip at places like pinterest, but I couldn't visualize it until now. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the feedback :)
DeleteIt was annoying me too that no one actually broke it down. Lots of people need visuals to understand concepts like this.
