This one, again, seems obvious, but if you stop for a
second during everything throughout the day, you start to look at the
things you use for those tasks, and it's good to consider how much of
each thing you really use. A lot of these products are definitely
necessary, but with a little tweaking you can get the most out of them. I
spent a week stopping to look at all the products I use, and how I
could get by on less.
- toothpaste - start small, and add more if needed, brush gently to extend brush life too
- in the shower - do you really need that much shaving cream, shampoo, gel?
- cosmetics - scale back your routine to gain some money and a lot of confidence!
- toilet paper - start off with 3 squares, re-wipe with 3 more if that's not clean enough, or a "big job"
- tissues - as a hay fever victim, I make sure I've used the entire piece before tossing (sans the flu, ew)
- laundry items - scale back detergent until you find the minimum needed, rip dryer sheets in half
- paper towels - use halves, or replace altogether with microfiber cloths
- napkins - go cloth, trust me, they work better anyway
- dish soap - We hand wash, so I make a soapy sink, only soaping the sponge if it's a tough dish
- sponges - cloth is ideal, but if not, just microwave 2 mins. once a week to reduce germ decay
- portion control - not only will you cut your groceries, but your waistline too!
- cleaning products - I make vinegar/baking soda solutions, applying in phases to minimize usage
- fuel - stop speeding, ease off the gas (coast) 500 ft/ ahead of a stop in order to reduce braking too
- printer - greyscale is ideal, don't print until you can use the whole page
