HBO's Girls: Jessa, Hiding from Herself in Blunt Honesty

I kind of love Jessa's character. I'd almost say I admire her at times.

She isn't afraid to speak her mind about anything, ranging from simple facts to uncomfortable truths that we all know but try to avoid thinking about.

She borders on caustic without really being personally offensive, which at times reminds me of me when I get carried away with myself.

She seems to have a big heart, and very open to taking in the world around her.

But she isn't naive about it, either.

As the series progresses, you start to see a peek beneath the hard-truth exterior into a vulnerable, emotionally damaged girl. She tries so hard to live a high octane life, spurting blunt honesty in an attempt to hide from other truths about herself.

Even in rehab, she dances around her own brokeness by redirecting every conversation at whatever elephant may be lurking in the room beside her.

The only time we see her open up about her internal truths is with her father, whom she considers a kindred spirit, but also seems to blame/resent him for his role in how she developed into who she is.

It really just resonates with me, how one person can be so raw, and yet still hide within themselves.
