We start off with a really shitty, possibly even ironic situation when two ambulances collide in the emergency bay. I have to admit I had a sick giggle until things got as tragic as they did.
But wait, there's more! There's this fuckin guy, with the most archetypal, poorly developed writing since the asshole boyfriend that only pretended to quit smoking.
Oh look, a neo-nazi, with absolutely no consistency. His partner is a black woman, allegedly his best friend, that he works with damn near all day every day, but yeah, fuck those black doctors, they can't help him. This guy is just so freaking stupid it's literally unbelievable.
There is no way an unapologetic racist, which we are supposed to believe this guy is, would be cordial with Bailey, or about being treated by a minority doctor. Did he think she'd attack him or something? If this guy was true to his alleged character, he wouldn't care how offended anyone was, because he allegedly views Bailey and Weber as lesser beings. But no, instead he pussy-foots around the issue, acting like he's ashamed of himself, only to turn around and try to play off how he's totally fine with being racist.
Shonda, if you're gonna soapbox about something, at least be accurate. Your inability to write about this in a believable way makes this whole story arc impossible to take seriously, and I really wanted to. I loved Bailey's approach to the situation, and trying to "rise above," but again, the meaning is lost when the writing takes away from the significance of the situation. Way to freakin go.
