Spoilers Sunday: Fifty Shames of Earl Grey

Get out your handcuffs, candle wax, and rubber chickens, we're getting dirty with Fifty Shames of Earl Grey: A Parody by Fanny Merkin.

In case it wasn't obvious, this is a parody of the Fifty Shades series.

You can find the book here at Amazon.
  • Young, arrogant tycoon Earl Grey seduces the naïve coed Anna Steal with his overpowering good looks and staggering amounts of money, but will she be able to get past his fifty shames, including shopping at Walmart on Saturdays, bondage with handcuffs, and his love of BDSM (Bards, Dragons, Sorcery, and Magick)? Or will his dark secrets and constant smirking drive her over the edge? -Amazon

This book.
Don't read it while you're eating or drinking, because you will get injured. Oh my God, is it ridiculous!!

For those who enjoy the Scary Movie parodies, this book will be right up your alley. It has the same irreverent humor, and constant pop culture references mixed with American satire. I pretty much lost my shit when Anna and Earl use their iPads to play Words With Friends. Her internal thoughts are on point, "Ugh, he just added an 'S' to my word, asshole."

The sex scenes are full tilt preposterous, with Earl at one point taking a running leap to dive into Anna's body.

Merkin's descriptive writing paints a vivid picture, making every page increasingly entertaining with each paragraph. The blatant exaggeration of E.L. James' character archetypes is a hoot, playing up the cliched role of naive virgin to the absurd maximum.

Definitely give this book a try, whether you're looking to mock Fifty Shades in it's vapid storytelling, or just laugh at yourself for having enjoyed the original, I guarantee you will thank me for it.
