I am of course grateful for all the generous, creative people who participated last night.
Increasingly, whether for religious, safety, or economic reasons,
the neighborhood I grew up in has been partaking in Halloween less and less each year.

More and more houses have their lights off, with notes ensuring you know there's no candy there.
Not to judge, to each his own,
but it's a little sad that what once was a small, social community has become so removed
from fun traditions like Trick or Treating.

My parents and I love both aspects of it too.
The younger kids get to go out with their friends,
visiting homes with cool decorations and earn some candy along the way.

We get to stay at the house,
giving kids little sugary pieces of joy while enjoying the parade of
adorable, interesting, and often impressive costumes.

All around it's just so much fun!
And so, today, I am grateful to you Lake L.A.-ers who still join in on this venture.
