I have quite a few sources of entertainment,
but there's one I'm picking up again this winter.
Since playing pinball isn't a realistic option to kill time with,
on account of my knee protesting,
I've decided to whip out the yarn and crochet again!
I'm not particularly good at it,
as my go-to stitches are the standard double, and seashells.
It makes me happy though,
being able to keep busy while still producing something.
Not to mention, the fine motor functions help
keep blood in my icy hands.
Husband has yet to witness me crocheting,
even though I've made a few doilies with his grandmother.

He's already making the granny jokes though,
since razzing me about being domestic gives him pleasure.
I don't mind, because he does it out of affection.
I also don't mind because he'll eat those words
when he's warm and snuggly with all the crap I'm making him!
It's pretty impressive how many applications there are
for looping one long string of yarn on itself.
You can make damn near anything with all the patterns out there now.
This is another case of Pinterest both inspiring and shaming me.
I'm totally in love with the boobie nursing cap,
but since I'm never doing that,
it'd only be worth making for a friend,
and that's just too much pressure on me to perform.
Crocheting is only a recreation.
Half of my projects near completion,
and then get completely unraveled for one reason or another.
Some of you are screaming, "WHYYYY?"
Too bad!
Most of the time this happens because of some over-tight row,
or a lop-sided shell stitch I don't see until I'm done.
It's all good with me, though,
and maybe with my fandom watching,
I'll try to actually FINISH something this year.
So thank you, foremothers,
for crafting and perfecting this lovely technique.
I finished the baby blanket I was working on a while ago. Currently tackling the dreaded afgan
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to hear some updates on how time-consuming that is, so I know what to expect.
ReplyDeleteI'm a knitter. And I, too, just picked it up again. I've nearly finished one fingerless glove for my son. (For gaming and late night homework.) What are you going to start with?
ReplyDeleteI have this "blanket" I keep coming back to across almost five years now, and I may take a crack at that again. Otherwise, I'm going to pump out a basic scarf, just to get back into the rhythm, and then do something like slipper socks.
