Gotta Catch 'Em All

In 1996, Nintendo graced the world with Satoshi Tajiri's greatest gift to my generation:

My brother and I got the games, and a Gameboy each, for Christmas the year it was released.
It was the best thing to ever happen in our short lives!
The two things I love about this franchise are the game and the animated series.

They are all originally from Japan, translated for American consumption, like this:

For those who aren't familiar with the game, it's an RPG for Nintendo's Gameboy. The story involves a character (presumably you), charged with the task of not only capturing all known Pokemon, but also training them and defeating other trainers within the world.

It's a pretty straightforward game, which starts off as a forced tutorial to teach you the functions and tasks of the game, and gets increasingly harder as you play. The language and content makes this franchise great for all ages, and has a complex enough story for adults to enjoy.

Not only is this a major piece of nostalgia,
but I still very much enjoy playing the game today.

It has yet to wear thin for me, and is great for killing time when I have to rest. The newer versions are more complicated, with increasing lists of Pokemon.

The last generation I beat was the third, on the Gameboy Advance SP, so I can't really speak on the other 3 or 4 gens.

All I know is, I am super grateful this was brought to the United States in my childhood.
